Intensified Aerial Operations
Following the capture of the 16 Infantry Division headquarters in Nyala, South Darfur, by Nyalaapid Support Forces (RSF) in October 2023, and their subsequent control over the city, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have increasingly relied on airpower to target RSF positions. However, these operations frequently miss their intended targets, causing significant harm to unarmed civilians. Over the past three months, SAF airstrikes in South Darfur have intensified, particularly after reports emerged of an aircraft landing at Nyala airport, allegedly transporting military equipment for the RSF. Several air strikes have targeted areas around Nyala airport, further escalating the conflict in the region.
Frequent Air Raids
At approximately 6:00 PM on Saturday, November 9, 2024, a warplane conducted an aerial raid over Nyala city, firing two missiles. The first missile struck a residential area near Airport Street in the "Ibad al-Rahman" neighborhood, close to "Razzaz" grocery store. The impact resulted in the deaths of approximately ten individuals and injured dozens of others. The second missile tragically killed an entire family of seven who were sitting under a tree selling food. Surrounding houses were partially destroyed, and many injured victims were transported to Nyala Teaching Hospital for treatment.
