The war in Sudan began on April 15, 2023, in the capital, Khartoum, between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), before it spread to other states across Sudan. By the second half of 2023, the conflict expanded to include the regions of Kordofan, Darfur, and Gezira State. The escalation and widening of the war, along with the involvement of new actors, had catastrophic consequences for the Sudanese people throughout 2024. This report, monitored by the Youth Citizens Observers Network, provides a summary of the key events in 2024, analyzing the humanitarian, economic, and social impacts of the war, as well as regional and international efforts aimed at reaching an agreement between the two parties that could end the war and pave the way for a political process. The report draws from the network's findings during 2024, relying on credible sources such as international organizations’ reports and independent media outlets.
