Kassala State - Report on the Impact of Rains in Shelter Centers

On Friday morning, July 26, 2024, large parts of Kassala State in eastern Sudan witnessed heavy rains, with high rates reaching 118 - 120 mm in areas of Bant neighborhoods and Kassala countryside locality, according to the director of the Meteorological Office in Kassala State, who reported Also, rainfall rates in Kassala Airport area reached (75) mm, while they reached (68) mm in New Halfa, and (64) mm in Khashm El. Girba.

The displaced people live in Kassala shelter centers in harsh conditions in light of the lack of the most basic necessities of life, such as water, food, and treatment, especially those coming from the cities of Sinja and Sinnar, who spread out in the open after the tents were flooded and classrooms, where they live, were filled with rainwater. The state government announced the transfer of the industrial school shelter center, which is the most damaged center, to the west of Kassala Airport within (72) hours.
